So college confidential is dead and no one logs on for UMASS. I was wondering if you guys could help. I was thinking about applying for UMASS Amherst as I'm getting ready to graduate HS soon. I wanted to know about the Athletics program. Basketball specifically. The website wasn't clear (at least to me) how to join and I'm confused about the process in general. Is it like HS basketball? Is there any special criteria I should have? Is it some kind of prestigious program? I honestly have NO clue about how college athletics work. Need feedback. Thanks!

They are Division 1, so no, it's nothing like high school sports. They recruit players, and likely allow a few walk-ons every year through a tryout process. Why not contact the Atheletic Directer directly if you want information about the program?

Thanks for the info! I did a little research while I was out. I'm not going to even try. The requirements are crazy and the guys are HUGE. I'm like 5'7 with a bird chest. I don't think there's much of a future in basketball for me.

You'd probably have a better chance at one of the smaller satellite schools, such as UMass Dartmouth - than at UMass Amherst.

UMass Amherst is Division 1, and in the mid-major Atlantic 10 conference. So it'll be a much higher standard of competition to get on that team.
