Hi, we are moving to Boston from NYC and will be residing at brookhouse complex in Brookline, as far as I know my daughter (going into 3rd grade) who is very strong academically could be asigned to either Pierce or Lincoln by a superintendent. Does anybody know how it happens and whether I should try to put her in one school vs the other? In other words, which School is better? Thank you, Mike

The Brook House is in a buffer zone where you are assigned to a school based on availability/classroom size/crowding issues. As far as I know, that means you must accept wherever they put you.

There are some mitigating factors when it comes to this kind of thing, such as: you've lived in the Lincoln district for 5 years and then you move to the Heath district (typical migration pattern), many times they let you stay for continuity. But just coming into the system from out of town I doubt you'll be able to make a case for one school over the other unless your daughter requires enrollment in a special program like Japanese Language Learners, developmental disabilities, autism, etc. There is no gifted program. If you really need a gifted program for third grade try the www.sageschool.org Sage School in Foxboro. Starting in fifth grade, for girls, you can look at the Windsor School www.winsor.edu.

Everyone in Brookline thinks the school their kids go to is the best. There are eight elementary schools, and it is a large town encompassing almost every kind of neighborhood and family from all over the world. My kids go to Lincoln, so of course we think it's the best!

Good luck, welcome, and maybe I'll see you around.
