According to the BLS, Boston workers are paid more than workers in San Fran and NYC. Here is the link to the article.

Best-Paid Workers in U.S. Are in Boston and San Francisco, Not New York - Metropolis - WSJ

Just curious, do you all FEEL like you're the highest paid in the nation?? Or does the cost of living take up most of the "extra" earnings? Does this fact surprise you at all?

For someone that will be moving to the Boston area in a few months, this is great news to hear, but I just want to get a realistic response from you all. Who knows what population sample they used, or the sampling error, alpha, etc.

Thoughts??

Although I make 30% more than what I made in Atlanta, I feel like I have taken a de facto pay cut. Granted, other things about living here compensate for the lower bang for my buck, but I think it's clear that bigger salaries don't equate with increased spending power.

Relative to the cost of living..that's not an impressive statement that Boston workers make more. Boston is an expensive city to live and work in.
I will be interested to see what people post here.

Yeah, cost of living chances things drastically. I was making almost 50% less in austin, and living fine. Here... I'd be homeless.

Although, if I can make more in boston over NY, I guess theres 0 chance I'll ever be living in the village or soho :-/

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing after hearing about the cop who made over 257K last year.

The pay for police is astronomical.

There is also widespread fraud especially in the fire department.

I think most of the New England area are obsessed with DD. That was the first thing that shocked (disgusts) me about the New England area. Coffee is disgusting, donuts are stale, I don't understand how they're so big as they are.

Also the accents, ugh.

Not really surprised, but then again, they'll need every penny. Housing prices ( both renting and owning) are outrageous here. Increased pay does not necessarily mean a better standard of living, and prospective residents need to understand this. If you're fairly well-off,then this point may be moot; for others, though, it can make the difference between moving and staying put.

Just moved to Boston recently.
Cost of living could be worse elsewhere, but I'm really curious about Dunkin Donuts being everywhere!
