My boyfriend and I will be in Boston for a little over a week at the beginning of Sept, we really enjoy trying new beers and going on Brewery tours and whatnot. Anyone have suggestions for good pubs or breweries in the Boston or Cape Cod areas?? My bf suggested we look up Sam Adams....

Thanks for any suggestions!

Haven't done either tour myself, but the other big brewery tour you hear about in Boston besides Sam is the Harpoon brewery: Harpoon Brewery - Google Maps.

I'm another one for Harpoon. Far better than Sam IMO. Also try one of the Beer Works locations. They've got some good brews too.

Decent beer pub choices that I've been to:

Sunset Grill - Brighton Ave. near Harvard Ave., Allston (Green Line B, Packard's Corner or Harvard Ave.)
Sunset Cantina - Comm. Ave. west of BU, Allston (Green Line B, St. Paul St.)
Cambridge Brewing Co. - microbrewery in an office complex in Cambridge, a half mile walk from Kendall Square or so (Red Line, Kendall - look up directions)
Penguin Pizza - Huntington Ave. in Mission Hill/Longwood area (Green Line E, Brigham Circle)
The Other Side Cafe - Newbury St. near Mass. Ave in Back Bay (Green Line B/C/D, Hynes)
The Kinsale - City Hall Plaza/Gov't Center 2 (Green or Blue Lines, Government Center)
Publick House/Monk's Cell - Beacon St. in Brookline (Green Line C, Tappan St.)

All of the above is good advice. One thing I will add is Doyle's. It is an institution in Jamaica Plain (the same neighborhood housing the Sam Adams brewery). It will give you a nice selection of beers and a great sense of the true neighborhood pub as opposed to a tourist oriented Cheers type place. It is a must be seen spot for any politician worth his shirt (look for pictures of both Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton hoisting beers at the bar), a mandatory stop on the way home for teachers from English High (across the street) and a quick post tour jaunt from the brewery to the pub. If you need more beer after the tour, Doyle's is as good a place as any to drink it.
