I have a full-length woolen coat but I am looking for something in addition:

- Waterproof
- Mid-length
- Not specifically designed for athletic use / too athletic looking
- Not a too-common brand (e.g. Lands End, North Face, etc)
- Good quality for daily use
- Warm
- More fitted than box-y
- Not so to-the-minute trendy that I can't wear it next year
- People should be inspired to say, 'wow. cool coat. where did you get that'

I could go to Neiman Marcus or some such place and find a coat with these parameters, but I don't want to pay $$$$ for a 'status' label. I also don't want to pay big $$$$ period. But I will pay $$$ (hundreds) for something I'll get a lot of use out of.

Any suggestions for cool stores in the area?

Walk out of NM right across the street to Filenes Basement. Go there frequently and you shoulld find what you're looking for eventually at a *wicked good* price!

I've always been a fan of Patagonia's (Newbury St store) outer wear. I think the prices are reasonable, styles are traditional, and I always get at least 4-5 seasons out of them.

Try REI or EMS and get one of their store brand coats. Similar quality as North Face with a lower price tag and discreet logo. Columbia is a good brand also, you can find them at Dick's, Sports Authority, or Macy's. Marmot is another brand to consider.
