I am a young gay guy, almost 20 years old.
I will be working full time in a few weeks and making between $15 to $20 an hour.
Also I go to college part time.

Anyways I want to move out because my parents are really homophobic(yea they're not that smart) and I think they will kick me out if they see me with a guy...I just want to be myself finally and come out to everyone.

I know the South End and Back Bay, where a lot of gay people live, are really expensive...so I am wondering if I will be able to afford a studio apartment there?

If you don't think so...what other areas of Boston close to there should I look to live in that are cheaper but not a lot of crime?

Sounds like you are in a tough spot. As you may know the South End/Back Bay are fairly expensive neighborhoods. You will be looking at $1200+ for a studio apartment that wouldn't exactly be that spacious. There is a possibility that you can share an apartment with roommates (gay friendly ofcourse) that should makes things more affordable.

If you definitely want to live on your own, I would recommend checking out Allston-Brighton area, where there are a lot of college kids and the rents are somewhat cheaper than BB/SE. Good luck!

There's a large gay community in Jamaica Plain too. It's cheaper than the South End.

Do what the majority of people your age do and find a roommate. Boston/Cambridge/Somerville is pretty gay-friendly overall.
