Hello, I am an ICU RN considering a move to Boston. How are the ICU's, what is the availability of openings, are the hospitals unionized, what are the salary ranges, how bad is it to get to work/parking, etc. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am considering doing a travel assignment first, anyone know the hospitals who use travelers? Thanks

Most hospitals in Ma., and the Boston area will use travelers for speciality RN positions. Nurses are pretty much dime a dozen in the Boston area, and Ma, especially for staff level positions within the likes of: M/S, Tele, Ortho, etc...but if you specilize in the likes of: CCC, ICU, OBS, Peds, CVS, and are certified in these specialities with at least 5 years, you will be in high demand at most hospitals.

The majority of Hospitals in the Ma. are unionized, MNA, which is in fact a pretty good thing for nurses. Boston pays the highest, and most of the per diem rates are very lucrative. Just about all hospitals (especially union hospitals) will pay based on your years of experience, and will pay minor differentials for degrees and national certifications.

Good Luck!
