Dine-out Bostonians!

I'd like to give my daughter & her boyfriend a gift certificate to a restaurant in Boston or Somerville. I've been to the Boston Mag. site but quickly got overwhelmed (and underinformed regarding prices), so I thought I'd post here. Consider:
  • Cost for 2: $100 (less, ideally) would include appetizer, entree, dessert, and maybe a drink.
  • Cuisine: Thai, Indian, Mexican are all OK. Just needs to include a few vegetarian selections.
What I'd like is a place that a student wouldn't go to for a complete meal (meaning: she might have been somewhere but cost limited to just an appetizer and drink).

Thanks for your help!

What about Cambridge? I would recommend Hungry Mother in the Kendall Square area. It's absolutely yummy and I love the atmosphere there.

Terramia in the North End. It's small, romantic and Italian. Food is great, and prices are reasonable. There are vegetarian options.

(I also like Hungry Mother).

I love Hungry Mother, but is it really veg friendly?

Most of the really good Indian, Mexican restaurants etc around here aren't really "special occasion" kinds of places.

An exception to that rule if you/they are hell bent on ethnic is The Elephant Walk, which is French-Cambodian, also in Cambridge. I'd say that's a bit more veg friendly.

Sorry to jump in here again, I know it should be one and done. I've eaten at TORO (another of Ken Orlinger's restaurants... one of my favorite local chefs) in the South End a few times and absolutely love it. It's relatively authentic Spanish Tapas. Our outings (my GF and I) generally cost between $85- $120 (depending on the number of drinks and how hungry we are). There are some vegetarian items (which are cheaper) and some excellent meat/seafood dishes. Check it out.

Favorite Thai is Brown Sugar Cafe or Montien.
Indian: Mela, Bhindi Bazaar, Kashmir
Seafood: Union Oyster House is a national landmark. Everyone should eat there once.
Top Romantic - Top of the Hub (but sorry, pricey)

I like Diva Lounge in Somerville as far as Indian goes. I love their drinks. On some nights they have $1 Indian tapas. I think they serve them from 5-7pm.
