Can anyone recommend a decent place for a pint in Back Bay. Looking for something a little more authentic and not too touristy, although I'm not sure if that's possible in the area we'll be staying? Tips?

Forgot to mention that we'll likely be staying at the "Lenox"

Clery's, by the Back Bay train station, is as close as you're going to get unfortunately. It's quite touristy but not so bad for what it is.

I'd recommend this place, in the neighboring South End, much more highly:
J.J. Foley's South End

Foley's also has a location in Downtown Boston, which borders the Back Bay as well. Avoid this one on Thursdays and Fridays during "after work" hours but otherwise it's fine.

Doberman, you must not know the Back Bay very well.

If you're staying at the Lenox, you don't have to go very far: Solas

Also, at Park Plaza is: M.J. O'Connor's (http://www.mjoconnors.com/index1.htm - broken link) owned by the same company as Solas.

Yeah, Solas and MJ's are part of a lame, overpriced, (mostly) hotel based chain. They have one at the BCAEC Westin as well.

I've either lived or worked in the Back Bay since 1995. Other than a few good lounge/Martini places and that dive TC's over by Berklee the bar scene here is pretty weak, definitely worse than any other section of Boston proper.

Thanks all. I'm certainly not opposed to a bit of a walk to find something decent or a little more off the beaten path with decent prices for a pint and good atmosphere. Either way, by the sounds of it we have lots of options.

Crossroads Pub on Beacon St is a nice little bar.

If you walk west on Boylston a few block (just past the Hynes) you'll fine Bukowski's. They have one of the best beer selections in the city. And a couple blocks past that is a favorite of mine...TC's Lounge. It's just off Mass Ave on a side street called Haviland St (Across from Berklee).

Enjoy.
