I've lived in NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco and I've NEVER experienced such DUMPS of apartments and uncaring landlords as I have in while living in the Boston area. What is the reason for owners not caring about their buildings??

And does anyone have any suggestions - while my sister and I save money (if we can) to move out of the NE - of cities/towns to live in outside of Boston that is AFFORDABLE, friendly and close to public transportation (commuter train is fine)??

Thanks!!

I guess everyone's idea of "affordable", would be different, right? Give us a number to work with. and also where you need to commute to.

From the landlord's perspective, no need to go to the extra trouble to make a place nicer if you can get those kind of rents anyway. I know what you mean, though.
