Can I park at an MBTA station but not ride the T? I'm going to Lilac Sunday at the Arboretum and parking's supposed to be tough. Public transportation would take me 90 minutes versus a 30 minute drive.

In theory, yes, nobody checks that you actually rode the T. But, others may have the same idea you do, so the lot might be full when you get there.

Sure. It's Sunday which means you're not competing with regular workday traffic for parking. There are a mere 206 spaces at the Forest Hills station so that counts for something. You may still be competing for spots as the Lilac event is sort of big. Jamaica Plain is a relatively easy neighborhood to find (free) street parking in. I would consider just looking on South St. closest to the Arboretum as well.
