I will be spending 1 week near the Floating hospital for Children in downtown. I'm looking for a safe area to park my car since I'm coming across the US. I have done some reading and am considering leaving my car overnight in the Braintree or Quincy Adams ramps for a week. Are these relatively safe? I thought about parking my car at the airport parking for the week. Are there any better/cheaper alternatives?

Since it'll just be myself, I'm considering staying at the 40 Berkeley hostel. Are there any other cheap ($50-70) hotels that I could commute in to avoid staying in a hostel? How safe is it to leave a laptop at one of these places during the day?

Thank you for your help!

I wouldn't leave anything of value, such as a laptop computer, at a youth hostel during the day. If you don't want to lug it around, then try to get a locker at a Greyhound bus terminal. Or just not bring your laptop at all, and go online at a cyber cafe or public library. Or travel with something smaller like a netbook.

That's what I was thinking. I've been searching price line for hotels <$70 and have not had any luck yet. Even if I had to commute in for the week, I'd be OK with that.

There is a Motel 6 within (I think) a half mile of the T (Red Line) in Braintree. Just Google Motel 6 in Braintree for exact location and info. That might be your cheapest bet. I believe there is also a Motel 6 in Framingham. I do not know the proximity to the commuter rail, though. If it is reasonably close, the rates might be a little less expensive. The commuter rail is a bit more expensive than the T and the amount of trips is also less frequent. If you were to go to Framingham, that train will take you into South Station.

Go to the MBTA's (commuter rail, bus, and subway) website (if you haven't already) to see where things are, download maps, and plan trips.

Alternate cheap choices to consider:

Super 8 Watertown - easy parking and a 70 bus takes you straight to Central Sq where there is a Red line.

Farrington Inn Alston - easy walk to Green line train. Might find street parking as well.

I second Super 8 Watertown cuz of the convenience of the bus (70 as well as 70 A).
Last time i rented for few of my friends, we got a deal as we planned ahead. If you have some kind of rewards card, you can use the points too.

Oh, i should mention that the room will be around $90-100 with taxes and all. But if u have some points, u can redeam them. We used my points it came down around 75-80. But we rented the room for just couple of days.
