Nine months later, mmyk72 has either moved into that house or not. Either way, s/he has moved on.

Really? So I guess you spend a lot of time in my neighborhood then, right? There are a number of parts of Roxbury that are just fine, thanks, and I live in one of them. I don't know why I bother responding to this kind of c$%p, but sometimes it just REALLY rubs me the wrong way.

BTW OP: Baker and Centre Streets are perfectly fine. It's a very nice neighborhood close to Centre Street shopping. You could do a lot of your shopping through walking. FWIW: I wouldn't get too hung up on "safety". There seems to be a pathological obsession with it on this forum and you shouldn't lose sleep over it - particularly in W. Roxbury - irrespective of how far a house is from Washington Street?!?!

I know this thread is old, but since it was resurrected, a few key points need to be made.
  • Roxbury and West Roxbury are different places and not even contiguous and have fairly different profiles. Both are nice in their own way, both are not right for all.
  • As rranger has stated, safety is an over-blown issue. With the exception of a few blocks in some well known locations (Blue Hill Ave., Geneva Ave.) violent crime in Boston is very minimal. And even in the few violent seeming areas, it is directed violence, not random.
  • The school issue, much like safety, is wildly over played. The elementary schools in West Roxbury are all very good, and there is no reason not to send your child to one.

Then don't respond next time--OK, kid?

I'm simply informing someone that Roxbury and West Roxbury are very different communities. Don't get psychotic about it.

Something about "children should be seen but not heard" that rings true here. You should take my grandmother's advice.
