Even though I'm not moving to Boston until next June (2012) I've been watching apartment sales on Craigslist just to get an idea of the rates for each area and start doing research on the certain towns and cities I'll be able to afford.

I'm from CA, so right now my main source of apartment-hunting has been using Craigslist.

Are there any other online sources to look at apartments in Boston besides Craigslist? Is Craigslist even a good source to begin with?

Thanks guys

Craigslist for me has always been the starting point for me. Normally they way it goes, you find a listing on craigslist that looks perfect. You call the number listed, which is always a reality company(that seems to never have that listing availible anymore...) They take down what you're looking for, and then start showing you around.

People will tell you to look at local reality companies who focus on the specific area you're looking... but to be honest, you'll end up getting them anyway through craigslist.

I'm not sure what the turnaround is in June inside boston, I know if you end up looking away from college centric areas, you may need to wait a month or 2 prior before listings will be up. If its in allston or brighton, that may be a different story. Good luck!

Craigslist is alright, but only for the "by-owner" section. For anything else you might as well just call a reality company. I've never gotten an apartment off of CL but I know a lot of people that have and I haven't heard any horror stories so far.

Thats what I'm saying though. The majority of listings on CL are from Reality companies anyway. There arent many by owners sadly.
