I will be moving to Medford (near Tufts) from coastal California in a few months and I have an absolute phobia about driving on freeways. Is there any way to get to Gateway Shopping Plaza (I think Target, Petsmart and Costco are there) without going on a major highway such as Route 16? It seems as if the whole shopping center is on a peninsula. I do not mind going out of my way. I have been looking on maps and Googling it, but I cannot find an alternate route. Thanks for any help.

Oh, that's good. I tried to trace the route on Google Maps from my new house to the shopping center, but it looked as though I might need to merge into it to get on. I am glad to hear that it isn't a highway. Is the route to The Galleria Mall okay?

I know I must sound like an idiot and I apologize for asking these kinds of things when I am not even there yet, but we do close on the house in late January & I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks for the help.

You're probably looking at the segment of Route 16 near Main St going east to I-93. There are some merges and ramps related to I-93 but they are not a big deal.

When you're heading home going west on 16, don't hang a right turn immediately before I-93 to stay on 16. Continue straight to Harvard Ave or turn on Mystic Ave (depending on where in Medford you are going - I'm assuming right near Tufts and not north of the Mystic River).

Thanks for the wonderful and explicit directions. Yes, Harvard Avenue is the one I will need.

Is the circle round-about difficult to navigate? I can see another way to get there, but it is a bridge that appears to just end in the middle of The Mystic River. I wonder why that is.
