Hi:

I plan on coming out to see the Red Sox this summer. Is the Fenway Park Howard Johnson's a "decent" place to stay for a few days of baseball? I don't need anything too fancy.I've read many differing reviews. Also...what's the immediate neighborhood like (restaurants, etc?) Thanks!!

Ewww that place is old and nasty, it's like a flophouse for baseball tailgaters. It's a good location so you might be able to grin and bear it if the price is right. The owner of the property is planning on tearing the hotel down and putting up a new one in the near future. Have you looked at the Holiday Inn on Beacon St in Brookline or short term rentals on homeaway.com?

I'm sure it's not fancy.....would you say that it's "safe?" The neighborhood is ok, correct? I really appreciate the information!

The area is plenty safe. You might also try The Midtown or the Park Plaza.

It's pretty safe in the immediate vicinity for the most part. Crime does happen though. Don't leave anything in your car and if you go walking around by yourself late at night understand that there might be lurkers looking for an easy target.

The neighborhood is great otherwise. Plenty of places to eat, shop, and admire. You have a liquor store across the street plus a cvs and shaws supermarket on boylston street too.

The area is safe. Around Red sox stadium are about 100 bars. Im not sure if there are any restaurants but, I know there are fast food places there. Theres BK, Pop eyes, Subway, D'angelos, Mcdonalds etc. The best part about it is that there all in walking distances from each other.

Thanks. I did a little research and I'm now thinking about the Buckminster Hotel. Seems like a decent place??

There are a ton of restaurants around there, some of them very good ( Eastern Standard, Island Creek Oyster Bar, Sweet Cheeks, Citizens Public House to name a few).
