My daughter is interested in attending one of the three above mentioned universities for broadcast journalism. However, what she'd really like is to be an "actress" but not in the theater - film only. *sigh*

She's smart, so far so good as far as grades, SAT scores, class ranking, etc. She's Student Body President of a 3000 student Scottsdale, Arizona high school and she will have no trouble getting great letters of recommendation.

Also, we will be relocating to Pittsburgh, PA because that is where dad/my husband lives/works.

Which school do you prefer and why?

Thank you in advance!

Ok, I'm biased because I graduated from BU's School of Communication (now College of Communication) so I'd recommend BU. Programs are excellent and probably even more so than when I went to school. I wound up choosing BU over a certain Ivy League school in Philly because the school of journalism/communication was so excellent.

if she wants acting, why not something NYC or LA. she'll get the best education in that in one of those cities.

Hi London:

I saw this thread on the general MA forum and answered it there. Here's the link. I hope it answers your questions. Feel free to PM me if you want more. I have to warn you though that I attended BU over 20 years ago and the campus has grown since then. When I was there, "West Campus" (where the "jocks" lived) was 3 dorms and a football field. It's now an entire complex and it's probably the most campus-type atmosphere to be found there.

Overall, I'm very fond of BU.

if she's interested in both acting in journalism, then Emerson is the best choice by far since they have a preforming arts department. Emerson is a very urban school, meaning there is no "quad" and buildings are spread out a bit. the school is located downtown with some building in the Theatre district. it's an arts and media school, so the student body can be diverse. warning though, from the folks I knew that went to Emerson, tuition is expensive, financial aid limited, and the financial aid faculty unhelpful.
