I will relocate from midwest to Boston next month, find a job in cambridge. I would like to live in Waltham, however, I heard the traffice in route 2 is very bad. Just wonder how bad is the traffic, is 30-40 mins drive enough? Thanks

I used to get from Waltham to Harvard Sq. in 20 minutes by taking Trapelo Rd. to Belmont St. to Mt. Auburn St. But that time wasn't at rush hour; however I think 30 or 40 minutes would be enough, depending on what part of Cambridge you're heading to.

The area around Alewife subway station / Fresh Pond gets very very congested during rush hour, so avoid it if possible. Your commute time may also depend where in Cambridge you are going to work. If it is Kendall Square, you would have to include driving through most of Cambridge.
