I was wondering if anyone knows how hard it is (or isn't) to get a nursing position at a hospital in Boston if someone has a year of nursing experience in a hospital down South. Is it realistic to expect to be able to find a nursing job in Boston without too much trouble?

It's very hard. Most Boston hospitals are laying off nurses. You may find more opportunities in the suburban hospitals and there are definitely jobs available in per diem nursing.

You will also likely need BSN. RN is no longer accepted in the big Boston hospitals.

Thank you for your replies (though not the answer I would have liked)

Doesn't one have to have a BSN, in order to become an RN? Nurses become RNs once they pass their boards.

No. You can have an associates degree (studying nursing in perhaps a community college) and then take the boards, or NCLEX. If you pass, you have an RN. As in Jane Doe, AA RN. Many states are now requiring RNs that don't have a BSN to take courses to get their degree. That's why you'll see many schools/programs with course programs, RN to BSN.

Interesting, I didn't know one could become an RN after an Associates degree.

You can do it in less than a year and a half at North Shore CC.
