I have a phone interview with Brooke Charter School in Roslindale. I'm a little concerned about the safety of the neighborhood, but I've never been there (currently living out of state), so I don't know for sure! Does anyone have any "insider" information re: the school or the neighborhood? Thanks in advance!

I lived about a mile from there (closer along Hyde Park Ave. towards the city) and I'd say that area's fine. From there the closer you get to Hyde Park Ave. and the more southerly you get (towards Hyde Park), the more sketchy it gets. When you go up Cummins Highway to Roslindale Village, Washington Street from there-Southwesterly's fine, too...Washington St. gets sketchier from there-NE. From there, further NW-W as you get into West Roxbury is fully of perfectly fine family neighborhoods as well.

I don't know anything about the school, so someone else might be better equipped to answer that aspect, but I live about a five minute walk from the school and the area is fine. What krayzbone says above is basically correct, I walk home late at night a few times a week and don't have any problem. If you are planning on living in Roslindale, I would consider heading in the direction of the square, the area bounded by Cummins, Metropolitan, Washington and Canterbury is very nice and actually surprisingly affordable - I pay $1200 for a 2BR which is about 900 square feet. If you head to the other side of the square, near Belgrade and South Street, the houses are nicer and it is a bit quieter, but will cost a bit more.

Overall, I really wouldn't worry about it, especially if you are going to be there during the day. Rozzie Square is a great place, lots of nice shops, great farm market in the summer.

Had to look up where it was, looks like the old St. Claires. That area is fine.
