I'm a single girl, mid-20's, currently living at my parent's house out in the suburbs north of Boston but looking to move out and buy my own (first) place. I will definietly be living alone, so I really want to feel safe. I'd love to buy a condo vs. wasting money renting and not ending up with anything to show for it in the end. I'm also considering resale value, so a 1 or 2 bedroom would be great, but I'm not wealthy so nothing too expensive please.

I'm looking for a safe neighborhood somewhere in or just outside the city (preferably north to be close to my family but I'm keeping my options open!). I work near downtown Boston so easy access to the city is key. I'd be willing to go a little further outside the city and increase commuting time if the neighborhood was nice and I felt safe in my own home. However if it is outside the city, I really can't do complete suburbs again, I need a little life (bars restaurants shopping etc.)

Let me know what you ladies (or gents) think and what your experiences have been! I really appreciate the insight!

Somerville especially Davis Square or Arlington would be ideal for you. Somerville on the side of fun. Arlington on the side of safety. Values of properties only continue to rise in both places.
