Hi,

My girlfriend and I are planning a few trips this summer and Boston is on the list. Does Boston have an area that is more upscale than the rest? Where is the best area to get a hotel that is in the center of nightlife/bars/restaurants? Any nice wine bars/lounges?

Thanks for any suggestions guys!

The W Hotel in the theater dist would be my first choice. You'll be right in the thick of it, between downtown and the Back Bay, surrounded by theaters and nightlife. They have a swanky lounge in the lobby and a small club in the basement called Decent. There's a high end club around the corner called Bijou, and they've been booking decent talent recently (Tale of Us tomorrow night).

There are plenty of upscale areas in Boston to consider, for instance: Back Bay (Newbury Street, Prudential Center, Copley Plaza for shopping/restaurants); Beacon Hill (Charles Street for antiques/shopping + there is also a nice wine bar called Bin 26 & The Liberty Hotel - prison converted to hotel/bar there); North End (many italian restaurants here, research ahead to avoid tourist traps but look into Nepture Oyster, Prezza, and Tratoria Di Monoca); South End (for a variety of cool restaurants (like Toro and B&G Oysters) and several hip bars along this strip to check out). Off the typical tourist path would be places like Coolridge Corner, Drink (mixologist cocktail lounge near the waterfront), and even South Boston (not upscale but some cool local spots). Also lots of things across the river in Cambridge to explore, particularly Harvard Square and Central Square too.

Seaport District is the safest and most vibrant part of town at night, for catching the ocean breeze and having a glass of wine in an outdoor cafe. The North End is lively with the best food in town too.
