I was looking at other threads on this site, doing the usual looking for interesting threads to comment on, however there was one that I just could not respond to no matter how hard I thought about it. There was a guy on here moving to another state from Boston saying that there was no night life here and no socializing opportunities, which was the prime reason for his move. ARE YOU JOKING? How is there not any socializing opportunities, and for that matter nightlife in Boston? Of all the things to complain about, I definitely could not even ruminate on how you could even possibly state that.

I have been in Boston for about a year and a half now in the Suffolk county, moving from Phoenix, Arizona (and for all of you who have read my previous posts, Arizona is a state I honestly hope I never have to see again). I had actually moved here to start my law degree, and let me tell you I had instantly clicked in Boston. The people here were very nice and helpful when I first moved here and had actually went out of their way to help me. Furthermore my classmates had told me about the best pubs and clubs, which if you look it up online there are hundreds to choose from. It has literally gotten to the point where I would be falling behind in class because of so much nightlife lol. So I would like to ask those who lives and have lived in Boston, would you agree with this guy? Do you really feel like Boston has a nightlife and socialization opportunities, or am I just being optimistic?

P.S. My heart and soul is given to the innocent victims of the Boston Marathon incident, I swear how do some people sleep at night???

Boston has a nightlife, but after awhile it feels like many places...that the same people or type of people are the ones out every weekend. I also found many of the bars have the same type of feel, especially the stereotypical irish ones. I think if you stay away from the so-called "hot spots" you may find its better. I'm sure it is a big difference from Arizona so that might influence your current opinion. Enjoy the nightlife while you can, because like most places it just gets old after awhile.

My point is bascially when things are new they are more exciting, but some of it will wear off. Enjoy it while you can and I hope you enjoy it.

I guess it's relative. Boston nightlife probably would seem weak to someone coming from Miami or Las Vegas, but compared to Little Rock or peoria, well maybe more. A lot more time in Boston is dedicated to studying than per se Miami Beach.

I'm from NYC orig and when i moved to Boston. I LOVED the nightlife and the better choice of hotness. More social and friendlier than NYC. If I could afford Beantown back bay i would move back. I live on the LEFT coast now and love it to. But I do go to beantown to Greatcole salon once or twice a year for a facial and a trip to Mahhhhhhhhtahhhhhh vineyard.

Join some museum committies and other committes and you will get invited to some great parties

It depends on the individual person and what he/she is looking for in nightlife. I find Boston nightlife good for bars - irish bars, sports bars, and college bars. There is a hotel bar scene too that is pretty good for the mature crowd and there are cool events and live music, especially in Cambridge. Boston is not, however, a 24-7 city nor is it very nightclub-oriented. You'll find very few clubs dedicated to techno, house, hip hop, etc compared to NYC, Mia, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, etc. where going out to nightclubs/afterhours/eating till 4am is common. But overall, there are definitely nightlife options and plenty of drunken people roaming the streets Thurs - Sat night. If you seek, you will find.

I've lived here my entire life and went to college in the Fenway area of Boston. I had a blast those 4 years. Was always something to do.

I agree that it depends on what na individual person considers a good "nightlife" to be. If the Casino gets built in Boston, it might add a little bit more nightlife, but if you are looking for clubs that are open til 3-4AM then Boston might not fit the bill.

Thank you all for your responses. 2013 it's funny you mention that because I will be visiting new york for the first time next month. I'll keep that in mind. You guys do bring up a valid point though in that I have never been to these much bigger cities before which might indeed influence my opinion. I got plenty of time though I'm sure. That said the nightlife would not be why I chose Boston to study. I simply enjoy the east coast feel; everyone and everything here is so much more fast paced and energetic compared to the southwest. However, if someone told me they were leaving here because of the lack of nightlife, I would be kind of curious if that were the only reason.

I think it is definitely dominated by sports bars and college bars, very casual places. There are also many small live music venues in places like Central Square. Kendall Square seems to be growing a sophisticated night spot scene for people who want to dress up and go somewhere, and Davis Square seems very busy on the weekends these days too. There seems to be fewer places to dance or is nobody dancing these days?

Not sure if it is still there, the club with the Billiards and the bowling alley, Jillians is a bit fun.

I've seen some pretty massive dance parties at Avalon. Not sure if it's still there though.
