I used to live near Davis Sq and decided to visit again for a few days. I'll be driving in, probably booking an affordable hotel further away (Waltham, Medford, etc.). I was thinking about driving from the hotel and parking at Alewife, then taking the T to get around. That leads to a few questions...

For Alewife, does it fill up by 9am? Does it clear out after 9am at all or does it stay full until people get off work at 5pm? For example, if I came in at 8am or 10am,

Are there other affordable parking lots near T stations? A lot of the private parking lots seem to be around $30-40/day, so if I can pull off something $20 or less, I'd be happy.

Green D line is $6 for the entire day - Riverside and Woodland have spacious lots, but it is a bit of a far commute into the city. I believe it's $4 at commuter rail lots e.g. at Brandeis or Waltham, but fares are slightly more expensive ($6 1-way for zone 2?). I'd check out the MBTA website since they have info on parking costs and spot #s. Good luck.

Alewife doesn't really fill up ever. You can always get a spot on the top level - you're fine. It starts clearing out a bit around 2pm. It's $7/day there, which is pretty reasonable.
