Happy MLK Day. MLK lived in Boston for several years attending BU. He lived on Mass Ave Roxbury side second house east. He preached at the Union Methodist Church at Titus Sparrow. He called Boston his second home.

Here's a nice article about MLK's time in Boston, and some great pics of a peaceful civil rights march he led down Columbus Ave.

In my treasure trove of "firsthand and other" anecdotes about how human nature isn't always predictable - how people can sometimes be surprising in a good way - is one I read about MLK on one of his return visits to Boston. Flanked of course by bodyguards, he had returned to BU and was walking down Comm. Ave near a construction site. Next thing anybody knew, a team of workers - all heavy-set White guys - had dropped what they were doing at the site and were rushing toward him. Bodyguard hands went for guns "to be on the safe side." No need. The crew was vying for the chance to be the first to shake King's hand! (In this day and age phones would've been out for "selfies," too; LOL.)

The memorial sculpture in front of Marsh Chapel is a favorite of mine for its symbolism.

This is a great post and the more I read about this guy and our history, the more I have a profound respect for this man.

Thank you to the OP for the link and to Goyguy for the anecdote. I enjoyed an MLK Jr prayer service last night at St Katharine Drexel in Grove Hall. The Archdiocesan Black Catholic Choir was great!

Relax, it's universally "MLK" for short. I'm named for my father and never put the suffix after my initials. No shirts or anything else that I've ever seen with monograms have included one either - regardless of whether the man wearing or carrying the object is a namesake.

What slightly bothers me is - given how poorly history is taught any more, soon few will be aware of who Martin Luther was! I myself didn't know the significance of the Lutheran church or the Protestant Reformation until my family saw the church in Germany where he'd nailed his letter to the door. That was when I was 17.
