We've had some great comedy clubs and there's less competition for an audience that if they had been in NYC and LA.

Also, I've noticed that with comedy shows, the people making them tend to hire comedian/friends that they've worked with before on other projects. So the Boston talent hones their craft while making important connections in the area for later on. Jay Leno and Billy Crystal were discussing their early years together in the business on Leno's last show.

Yes! I love and miss New England sarcasm. I also appreciate Boston's self depricating humor. Many other cities around the US are uptight and defensive, not Boston.

Tom Cotter. (Runner up on America's Got Talent, very successful, internationally known stand up act). Born in Boston, raised in Providence, and kicked off his career in Boston. He frequently has shows at the Wilbur, but the early part of his career was spent doing standup at Boston area comedy staples like Dick Doherty's, Nick's Comedy Stop, Kowloon, Giggles, Comedy Connection, etc.

I've actually done a few open mic nights at local clubs. It's fun (even if there's no chance of making a living out of it), and there's a lot of good talent out here.

Unfortunately, most comics from Boston have to end up taking their talents to New York or LA if they want to advance they're career. Thankfully, most of them maintain their roots.
