Hi all,

I am moving to MA in August and am currently looking for places to live VIA Craigslist (since I'm hoping for a cheaper place).

I am curious how the commute would be living in Boston and doing the drive to Taunton everyday (M-F). I will only be here for 6 months so I thought this might be my only chance to live in Boston and have heard great things in terms of the city.

My job requires me to be in the office by 8 am and I am usually done around 5:00 or 5:30pm during the work week.

Any idea on how long that commute would be? Anyone have a room to rent from August to February 2014?

Thanks for the help.

Can't really give you an accurate time (that would also of course depend on where in Boston you'd be coming from), just that it would make for a real lousy commute. 93 is a royal mess in both directions.

It would take at least an hour each way assuming nothing goes wrong along the way. If your goal is to save money, you'd be far better off living in Taunton and driving into the city on the weekend.

Thanks for the replies. Thinking that it might be worth just living close to work and driving to the city when I feel the need.

I think it would take about 1.5 hrs each way. A commute you would tire of quickly.

That commute would suck, but living near Taunton would suck even more if you're single and don't know anyone in the area. Look into Quincy. It's not Boston, but at least it's a decent small city which borders Boston. The commute would be a little better and the overnight parking situation is a lot better.

^^^ second Parsec.

Not even people who live in Boston go to Taunton willingly... Enjoy your time in Mass and pick a more fun town that only requires a 30 minute commute.

Don't know if that exists. Perhaps Plymouth? But again that will put you even further from Boston. I wish I could disagree with you guys regarding Taunton, but it really is a hole. The surrounding towns are nice, but in a sleepy sort of way...

Yeah I know no one and from what you guys say about Taunton there may be an XboxOne purchase in my future for the six months I'm there so I don't go crazy..

Thanks for the replies!

Hopefully it's not as bad as you guys are making me think... as a single 24 y.o. male I need some action every once in a while in terms of going out.

Taunton itself looks/is pretty run down. I'm not sure the circumstances of how you landed the job you did, but it's probably the last place I'd choose to work for someone who is in your shoes.
