(As usual, Dear Mod, please redirect if I am going up the down staircase.)

For years I've had an old straight back chair in the cellar which is badly in need of refinishing and re-caning. I've looked at it hundreds of times with the intention of restoring it to its former glory.

Now that I've cleaned out the cellar hoping to soon put the house on the market, the time has come and with great anticipation I headed to the hardware store and got a bag full of what I'd need to do this.

HAH!

No, I won't. I have my share of talents, but this isn't one of them and to pretend otherwise is to waste time I don't have. I **know** there are people whose talent it is, and I'm hoping one of you will be able to give me a name of someone who does that dipping thing, and re-caning would be an added bonus; by direct message if a name isn't okay.

My gratitude will be boundless and I'll thank you in my Will. (Nothing to leave you, but I will see that you're thanked!)

I live in West Roxbury, FWIW.

That looks like the closest one I could find. It's in Somerville.

Thanks both to Casey and Mike. I think I'll do Needham....Somerville is sort of like Cambridge to me...a foreign country that requires a passport and where I drive around in circles. Thanks again! Making the call now......
