there is no reason to go there. Theres no grocery. No retail (other than family dollar and wig shops). Its not a"nice walk". Not a good place to grab a beer. Unless Master McGrath's qualifies to you. Of course this all could change. But, It doesn't seem like it has or will any time soon.

p.s. I do love Ron's Ice Cream

Truman Highway is not necessarily a pleasant walk to Cleary square. I would say the Star market across from McDonalds on HP is the better choice.

But why does everything have to be walkable these days? Even the grocery store? I dont think cleary sq needs a grocery store. They need more cute shops and restaurants people actually want to go to hp to see.

HP is surrounded by very nice areas. I never understood why it wasnt more of a place like w. Rox or JP

Because it improves quality of life. It's better for you physically, mentally, and reduces reliance on cars (or other energy consuming vehicles), and does not force people into owning a car.

And yes, even the grocery store.

There is a shaws/star market right after Boston Prep, right across from the McDonald's on HP AVE, near the D'Angelos. There's the stop in shop on Cummings high way in HP/Roslindale and there the Price Right on River Street plus the stop and shop on Truman. Hyde park has 3 if not 4 grocery stores...

Yes plenty of grocery in HP. HP must be unappealing to people for a variety of reasons despite being low cost. BS on the walkability thing. People dont have time to walk to the grocery store particularly of youre buying groceries for a family.

And yet loads and loads and loads of people walk to the Somerville market basket all the time, like I do. You see them all over carrying their bags. Often enough family groups doing so, with bags and "granny" carts with kids in tow.

Not everyone has or wants a car despite your protestations.

I personally walk there to avoid having to deal with the parking lots, it's only about 0.75 miles each way from me.

Hyde park is not somerville.

Single people living in somerville maybe can do it. I dont know how or why a mother of 2 or 3 in somerville would want to do that but im sure you know plenty that do timberline. Even if i was a sahm that seems nuts.

You should try getting out of your car and walking around. There are loads of people that live without cars around this region and do it quite well.

Not sure why you're assuming its the mother doing the shopping either. Lots of times it is entire families, or the fathers with the kids.

There is nothing "nuts" about not relying on a car, it's quite the opposite of nuts, it's in fact quite prudent. When one car families were the norm it isn't like people suffered.
