Try air temps in the 20's or 10's with windchill below zero OUCH

Planning on coming to New England

Make sure you buy scarves, mittens, hats, gloves, jackets, and parkas, and snowboots....
and skihats.

As one who has spent quite a bit of time in BOS and NYC, I think most folks in Boston and vicinity dress a bit more on the conservative/preppy side compared to NYC. NYC is a bit more cutting-edge, "hip, " whatever you want to call it.

And BOS is definitely *NOT* L.A. BOS is downright dowdy compared to the left coast and, speaking very broadly, I think people here overall pay less attention to personal appearance than folks in coastal California.
