I too am relocating to Boston in October, East Boston is the only place I've liked via Zillow searching so far...

I'm from Southern California, "latin" if we are generalizing, would be a welcome site. lol

How about Winthrop? It looks so close to East Boston via google maps...

Winthrop is very quiet and has a real community atmosphere. Not very many Latino's there though. It is its own city, separate from Boston city limits. 2 bus lines run there, but can be infrequent during non rush hours. They are a little more consistent on weekends though, believe it or not.

It depends on what type of environment you like. East Boston is very urban, while Winthrop is more suburban. Both have beaches, East Boston has more restaurants and is more diverse.
IMO Winthrop is a very sleepy town. There are only two roads to get in to Winthrop-from Revere and East Boston. I used to spend a lot of time there many years ago and felt it was very insular. Everyone knows everyone. I used to liken it to a small town in Kansas. That's not necessarily a bad thing, of course, the residents were pretty welcoming to newcomers.
Either place will be a breeze of a commute for your wife. Eastie has 4 blue line stations and Winthrop has none, but from Winthrop you can take a bus to Orient Heights station. Note that the blue line stations in East Boston do not have parking, so you either need to walk or bus it.

That's incorrect. Orient Heights and Beachmont (the two stations with any relevance to someone living in Winthrop) both have large parking lots which (in my limited experience and according to the MBTA's site) typically are far from full. Wonderland also obviously has a large parking complex and Suffolk Downs has a small lot.

The inner stations do not have official parking.
