I'm looking to move to Brookline to by the grandkids, and I will need to commute to my Job in Providence. My job is near commuter train. I don't seen an easy solution time wise.

We are willing to live near Brookline if it helps with commute, but we love Brookline neighborhhod.

Any suggestions please!

Brookline to Providence on the train will take a long time, going into Boston and back out. I don't know if you've checked the MBTA schedules but the trains are more geared to people coming to Boston instead of going to Providence. I don't know what time you work, but in the morning there is a train arriving in Providence at 7:25 and another at 9:30. That's it.

If the train does work for you, you could live near one of the stations, like Route 128, that is not that far from Brookline. Or live in or near Brookline and drive there, they have a garage if you take the early train. But either way it's not easy. If you are late for the 6:45 train you have to wait 2 hours for the next train. Same thing at night. The commuter rail just does not run enough. Good luck.

Nope...

Not too many people live in Brookline (one of the most expensive towns in MA) and commute to Providence RI to work.

It can easily take 30 minutes (without traffic) from Brookline to Rt128 commuter stop. If you drive 30 minutes to Rt128, you may want to drive directly into Providence... Another option is taking the green line into Boston (probably 20 minutes depending where in Brookline you will be) and take the commuter train from Back Bay(via Copley) or South Station.

I think you're talking about 1-2hr commute each way... everyday...

Good luck..

I agree with this. It seems like you live near Providence now? Maybe the best bet would be to live near Walpole or Sharon, halfway from Providence to Brookline. Then it would be a 35-40 minute drive either way. Brookline is pretty but it is very expensive and it's not easy to get to Providence for work from there.

The only way I would do it is drive.

Get on the JamaicaWay, cut through dorchester via Blue Hill Ave (route 28), cut to Route 138 to 128. Hop on 95 South.

If you work off hours, you could make it in an hour. If you work regular hours, it could take 1.5 to 2 hours on bad days.

Default It's easier to drive to Providence from Brookine, imo.

I commuted to Providence once or twice a week for awhile from Somerville, which isn't too far from Brookline, btw. It took me a little over an hour to commute each way, by driving. It's easier to drive down to Providence from Brookline or Boston, because one goes against the rush-hour traffic rather than with it. I used to watch everyone coming into Boston while I was going out, in the morning, and vice versa. The northbound side of the expressway always looked like a parking lot, while the traffic volume on the southbound side at that hour, while still substantial, at least moved along pretty smoothly. On the way back home in the evenings, the southbound side of the expressway would be like a parking lot, while the northbound side traffic moved along a bit smoother.

My stepmother commutes by train from Medford to Providence. It's not a fun commute and takes about 2 hours, but it is doable.

Smile Try Bonanza Bus/Peter Pan to providence from South Station

Peter Pan Bus Lines : Tickets — Fares & Schedules (http://www.peterpanbus.com/tickets/fares.php - broken link)

You might consider looking into round trip commuting via Peter Pan Bonanza Bus from South Station. It drops off at Kennedy Plaza Providence and also The Providence Terminal...

Seems to take about an hour +/- traffic.

its about $14.95 round trip which is about 7 dollars more than the train but still might be an option for you 5 days a week! You'd probably still save on gas money fill ups and such.

This might be a better option and there seems to be a lot of departure times during the day.

Don't know if they might have commuter discounts as well or coupons but it might be worth asking!

keep in mind you'd have to take the Green line to South Station - a suggestion would be D line Brookline or Brookline Village - to Park St. - Then Take the pedestrian tunnel to Downtown Crossing from park St. - and get the Red Line 1 stop to South Station from Downtown Crossing.

I would do a couple dry runs weekday trips to Providence via Brookline/Green line south station to see how long it takes you...back and forth etc.
Keep in mind if you're really late getting home the last subway trains are around 12:30..am

Hope this helps!!
