By all means, give it a shot, but be ready to slum it with roommates for the first few years until you're making decent money. And by decent I mean $75k a year at the very least, especially if you have any sort of school-related debt and/or car payments and whatnot. Just to put things in perspective, a $600 apartment in Mobile, AL is most likely a $2000 apartment in Boston - that's half of $75k takehome pay right there.
