Does anyone know of venues in Boston for live evening jazz music? I am looking for a quiet atmosphere in which I could have conversations with the ppl I am with, not a loud raucus event. They used to have live music in the Bristol lounge at the Four Seasons but they stopped doing it (except on special nights). I believe the Top of the Hub still has music. Are there other places? It doesn't have to be upscale, am looking more for quality of music and the ambiance.

The Beehive is one of my favorite spots. They often have jazz acts (though I'm not sure if it's exclusively jazz). It's a fun atmosphere but as long as you ask to be seated away from the live act, you should be able to carry on a conversation. The food is delicious and they have some really inventive cocktails as well - I'm a huge fan!

I ended up going to the beehive and it was very nice, the jazz act that night was better than I had expected and we were seated toward the back of the main area so it was perfect for conversation. The food wasn't that great and it is pretty expensive but one pays for the music.

Thanks for reporting back. The food at Beehive is very pedestrian, but they book some very talented acts. You should check out Wally's if you want something a little louder than Beehive, its one of my favorite Jazz venues anywhere in the country.

I'll add my voice to the chorus recommending Wally's. It's not quiet, but to me that is a good thing.
