Well, it's pretty close to five years later and Revere is now the new East Boston for the desirability factor. There is a ton of new construction going up all the way down Revere Beach Blvd: hotels, condos, restaurants, botiques etc. and it's actually gone over the bridge into Lynn too. Wonderland is gone, Suffolk Downs is gone. both bought and under plans for massive business development. Encore just opened up, a flood of people came with it. Now they are going to shuttle overnighters from Logan to Revere. The property is being swallowed up, sold faster than it goes on the market. Prices have climbed faster than many parts of Massachusetts. Go try and find an apartment under $2,300, anything...good luck! I see a lot of young urban professionals now displacing Hispanics and Asians. The way things are going even with a downturn in the economy the housing shortage will continue. Dorchester is too pricy, Roslindale too, Quincy sucks because Rt 93 is Hell and everything good is North. East Boston can't be touched anymore, Winthrop is like everyone is on top of one another and the planes fly over it. And this thing about not being safe is retarded. Chelsea was always far worse and now it's over the top. Revere is seeing an exodus of rif raf as they can't afford to live there any longer and the HUD cap is croaking them. In 3 yrs or less you won't be able to afford Revere. It's white hot that much. Oh, Lynne flea market is gone too. Slated to be knocked down for big money glass towers. The halo effect spreading from Boston North has definitely reached Revere and farther north. Lynn is now in the crosshairs. Funny, we will be reminiscing about these areas like we did about Slumerville, Ghetto Cambridge, Cockroach East Boston, Dim Sum Quincy, Harlem Dorchester and Roxbury etc...and now forget it. All locked down and high. You stay put long enough anywhere within 5 miles of Boston, you're going to see it change and it is and it's far better. 5 years is like an eternity in real estate and people turnover.

If you are single and in your 20s consider a studio rather than 1bd. If you ever find yourself wondering how people in Boston afford rent, most people in your situation have roommates. The only people I know who have their own place are married/have kids, or need their own space so badly that they spend more than 2/3 of their salary on rent. Just saying.

Even my coworkers in Quincy roomed until they saved up enough money to buy a condo, which they then promptly got "roomates" for to help them pay the mortgage.

But to answer your question, Quincy is a better idea.
