I lived in the Port back in the 90's. It was safe then except for thefts in the neighborhood. The worst thing about living there is the noise. It is over an air route, you hear traffic from the highway. The Red Line trains rumble nearby. And finally, I do not know if it is still there or not, but an ice cream factory used to or still does have a generator that can be heard through out the neighborhood as well.

YES! Neponset is the nicest part of Dorchester. It feels like a suburb. Very clean, and safe, Irish migrants and Irish Americans. Great little pubs. My grandparents live there and I was born there. It's the only place I would live in Boston with a family.

To each their own but I think the nicest parts of dorchester are lower mills, cedar grove area, wellesley park, some parts along melville ave and maybe adams village. Neponset has some sketchy parts. It's certainly better than geneva ave or Bowdoin st but I'd never call it the nicest part. My parents and both sets of grandparents are also from dot.
