Fairly worried about the area white married couple in our 30's. The houses look beautiful any advice on the safety of the area?

Not safe at all, I would look elsewhere if I were you.

Absolutely no. Literally would be a challenge to find a more dangeroused thugged out place in new England. Not even remotely safe.

And youre white? NO.

Do you like dirt bike gangs riding in the streets like a scene out of Mad Max?

Yeah that's in a pretty rough part of Dorchester. If Dorchester is your only option to live in, I'd choose areas like Savin Hill, Neoponset, Adams Village, or Lower Mills. Basically anywhere east of Dorchester Ave.Those areas are definitely safer, relatively speaking.

Although I actually live in Boston unlike - apparently - the majority of other posters (who are giving typically suspect advice), I would look elsewhere. There are much better parts of Roxbury (BTW, that isn't Dorchester), much less the rest of the city.

I took a Google Street View stroll down the street - and it does look very nice - but it is close to Blue Hill Avenue and that neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired. Your access to basic services - such as shopping - would be severely curtailed and that is reason alone not to move there.

Sorry, Gaston st is Dorchester. It's on the line but still in Dot. I did service work in that and mapping was one of the things I did for utilities and the city. The fact most people call it the bury because it runs between Warren and that chunk of BHA doesn't make it correct. I'm from Boston too, that doesn't mean anything. I don't know the city the way I do because I'm from there, I do because of the type of work I did for years.

I thought it was Roxbury too. There's nothing in the landscape to distinguish Roxbury from Dorchester; guess it's wherever the town line was when they were towns.

I'm assuming you're referring to me because I have the town of Hanover in my profile, and the other posters have no towns listed. But any case, I wouldn't give advice if I wasn't familiar with the area and have spent enough time there. I know Dorchester pretty well actually, have quite a few friends still living there and delivered pizza in that area through all 4 years off college at Umass Boston (also in Dorchester!)

To the OP, Gaston St is not in the greatest area, and like I said before, if you must live in Dorchester I would look east of Dorchester Avenue in the areas I stated in my earlier post.
