Is it now arrogant to say the earth isn't flat? Or is it correct? Or both?

Default Missing Boston forever

Boston will stay in my heart always. I graduated from university there. I felt homesick for many years. It brings me so many memories that I cry. Best city in the world. It was expensive back then but I guess it is more now.
Maybe if we get a bunch of people together and create a rent of 150 dollars each, we could afford to live there.

Just the willingness to pass judgement on millions of people you don't know is arrogant. I don't know what your previous statement has to do with anything.

The arrogance is an issue here, sometimes it's academic, but the most irritating are those who insist that Boston is the ONLY place to live in the US, and it often comes from natives who have never lived anywhere else...

Also known as Townies. Literally generations that have never left the area. I love the look of confusion I get when I tell them we are moving to the south. It's almost as if they never knew it was actually possible to pack your things into a moving truck and move elsewhere in the country.

There are some transplants though, in the interest of fairness, that also have this Boston-superiority complex. A good friend of mine here grew up in a small town in Maryland and talks the same way about the deep south and midwest that some of the similarly minded natives.

That is annoying. I don't get that. Personally I'd take Chicago over here, but the economy is great here, so, jobs...

Most Bostonians who diss most other cities wouldn't even realize Northwestern and University of Chicago are elite schools, better than or as good as schools here, no?

A 30-year-old female in my cab last month lives in Waltham, in luxury rentals high on a hill. But she's not so impressed with not just Waltham, but the entire "culture" of New England. Not sure exactly what she meant by that word, but I guess most of us kind of know what she means. It appears she hasn't been here too long, but having lived in Chicago for seven years, she realizes now how much she misses it.

No, Boston will not enthrall everyone who passes thru; YES, there are other fine places to live. Yes, some/many I meet in my cab from all over the world ARE impressed with our city, at least the downtown which may be all they see.

Default Re

The south also has some very distinguished old money types. Debutants, southern gentleman, etc. Many of the ladies down south would be appalled by the appearance and thoughts of some of the 'ladies' of cambridge and somerville.

There are rednecks everywhere not just down south. I lived in vt before and there are plenty of rednecks there as well as intellectual types. Thank goodness not everyone is alike.
