According to this chart, about crime statistics for every city in America, Boston is not very safe. This is a report released by the FBI, the violent crime rate and murder rate look really bad:

Violent Crime Statistics For Every City In America « CBS Chicago

I thought Los Angeles was a little more dangerous than Boston.... what about Greater Boston compared to Greater Los Angeles, which one is safer? I know there are a lot of safe areas in the LA area, but I'm not sure about Greater Boston....

When you consider just the metro Boston tends to do better:

I think part of the reason is that City of Boston is much smaller than the surrounding metro, which can slightly skew city-only statistics.

Compare apples to apples. 8 million person cities, and 3 million person cities, shouldn't be compared to 700k person cities. And no, making it per capita does make it apples to apples.

The violent crime in Boston tends to be centered around a few specific areas. Don't go hang out there at night and you'll be fine.

Same with Chicago and lots of places. I lived there, people told me "its so dangerous there!", no, it isn't, not unless I'm looking to live in or buy drugs in the projects.

Indeed.

Random violence for the sake of random violence is pretty rare anywhere.

Most people would never even randomly end up there because most of them are not served by the T.

Our revolving door court system certainly doesn't help Boston's per capita violent crime rate, though seems like deblasio is trying to play catch-up and undo everything Giuliani and Bloomberg have done. Few more years and they'll easily top ours.

I disagree with the basis of the report. As others have mentioned, crime in Boston proper is concentrated in a handful of neighborhoods. The city is not a warzone and certainly safer than NYC/LA, overall.

Yeah I too believe that Boston is safer than the other cities that's why the report surprised me........ anyone that has lived in both, Boston and LA or Boston and NYC?
