There are quite a lot of Indians in Arlington, at least in my neighborhood. My apartment complex has at least 3 Indian families, and the apartment I live in had an Indian tenant too.
The two convenience stores nearby are both run by Indians, as well as a grocery store selling spices.

Most buildings in Arlington are not gated, but the bigger apartment buildings do have gates.

Arlington (and some other towns such as Belmont) has the famous night parking ban. No car can park on the streets between 1AM-7AM. As a result most places are very safe, but also quiet like hell...

Thank you all for your suggestions. So far Arlington is the winner- good schools, safe, diverse and not too far from harvard medical school

I can't offer much advice beyond what everyone else has already mentioned, but let me be one of the first people to say welcome to the area, OP! I hope you like it here!

Just moved here and not really liking it. It's beautiful with all the greenery and hills but hate the traffic/driving, it's too expensive and it's soooo eerie quiet in the evenings. Can't wait for these 2 years to be over and I'm going back to Houston!

I can't say I blame you for feeling the way you do. However I think it's a little too soon to draw conclusions.

Personally, I'm baffled at someone preferring Houston over Boston. Sure, everything is new and shiny in Houston and there's less traffic. However, it takes an hour to get anywhere in Houston because everything is so far apart. I stayed there once for a weekend and couldn't wait to get out of there and that was just a weekend.

The cost of living in Houston is significantly lower so the things you mention become more tolerable. It's not like our traffic situation is so great either.

As a native Texan, I can say with absolutely certainty that Boston is far and away a better place to live than Houston. Houston is the armpit of Texas.

I consider Texas to be the Beer Belly of America. New England on the other hand is the head of america.

I believe that might be Lubbock. But Houston is pretty ugh. On paper it has everything going, sports, great arts community, all you could want, but the reality of day to day... no thanks.
