Living in the city is very expensive (housing and parking come to mind...two biggies) and it's congested. Not worth the price of admission, IMO.

I actually found the confusing/windy roads and traffic to be the biggest negative. Weather was a large negative as well.

RE prices are high but there is a shortage of homes in desirable areas in and around Boston. Even with the high RE prices, those who buy in a good location are likely to do quite well when they sell their property. I've heard of homes selling in a week. I've even heard that, for the most desirable properties, if your (buyer's) agent doesn't have a relationship with the seller's agent (to be made aware of when the hot property will be released to the market), it will be sold by the time you and your agent even see the property on the market.

The good: schools, many of the hospitals (mgh, children's, brigham and women's) the beach, good restaurants.

The bad: very high cost of living, traffic, bad public transportation, pretentious people, is becoming over populated and it's tough to get around and difficult to find a place to live particularly one that isnt very high priced or in the ghetto. Crowded. I love boston but sadly i rarely go into Boston proper anymore because of the traffic, difficulty if finding parking, then a long wait for a place to eat...make a reservation if you can.

Enjoy!

This. Depends on your personality whether you'll like it or not. The tough to get around thing becomes clearer and clearer to me every day.
