I have seen some negative things, however I see a lot of people call Upham's corner unsafe and I have spent a lot of time there without any problems, I think if you steer clear of Hancock st in Upham's Corner then you won't have a lot of issues. So I am wondering if this is the same thing. I feel like a lot of Dochester west of Dorchester Avenue gets a bad reputation that isn't necessarily always true. Just looking for advice.
Is Mt. Bowdoin an area you should steer clear of when looking to buy/rent?
Im pretty familiar with Dorchester as i lived there for 5 years but ive never heard of the mt bowdoin area. Theres bowdoin st which is not a great area. Meetinghouse hill area. Seems like Dorchester is getting better as prices rise and people are priced out but bowdoin st/Meetinghouse hill area has not seen much if any gentrification. It's a gang infested area, lots of crime.
It is a little bit further south from the area you described, where Bowdoin st intersects with Washington and turns into Harvard St. They are bordering neighborhoods I believe.
I first thought you meant Mt. Bowdoin Terrace, a street in Dorchester.
Seems you're talking about the Four Corners neighborhood. Is that also known as Mt. Bowdoin area?
I drive a cab and rarely wind up in that part of Dorchester, and don't/won't generally pick up there at night...same with most cab drivers. I'll ignore any radio calls there, which we're allowed to do; we just can't turn down people getting in the cab at a cabstand who need to go there.
I don't think most posters on this forum would care to live and play in that area.
