I am looking at a vacation rental in Allston Street in Dorchester. Is this area safe? Is Shawmut station safe?
Is there a better choice for three retired women to rent and explore Boston?

I don't know about safety but if you're coming on vacation I would not stay there. It's not close to anywhere you'll want to go. What kinds of things are you hoping to do?

Quick and easy transit into Boston and Cambridge is the major advantage. Neighborhood is pretty good- Maybe lacking in services like a nice place to get breakfast or a Starbucks or convenient place to get groceries or a cafe. If air b&b the owner can advise. There are some nice ones in Jamaica Plain along the Orange line subway which is a much nicer area with many attractions. Also many along the redline through Cambridge and Somerville.

It's too close to some not-so-nice parts, meaning there's a chance of running into a wallet/iPhone inspector if you're coming home after dark.

There are much better choices. How much are you willing to spend?
