Is free parking a thing in the metro-Boston area? Especially near a T-station. Where is free parking, particularly near Orange or Red Line stations, and is it easy to find in the morning? Are there time restrictions for parking in plazas or neighborhoods?

Free for how long? There are places with 2 hr parking that is free in a few locations. The signs are pretty clear. There are some others with longer or open, but you need to go further out, generally.

I got a good laugh out of this. Thank you.

So nothing really for free workday parking? I was looking around the Oak Grove or Malden Center stops for orange line parking, and Braintree or Quincy Adams stops for red line parking.

There are tiny pockets around, but I don't know any at those places. For obvious reasons, the pockets aren't advertised. For good reason this isn't widely available as commuters would inundate and jam these neighborhoods to save a few bucks a day.

Nope

I live a block from the North Quincy subway.
Even way out here, miles from downtown Boston, my street has a two-hour limit weekdays, three hours a block away.

In "convenient" South Boston, it's resident sticker only on weekdays. I would think certain Dorchester and Jamaica Plain streets have similar rules if near the T.

I understand even the pay lots at certain or all T stations can sell out quickly very early on weekdays. Imagine the chaos if they were free...

One used to be able to park for free on Medford St. in Charlestown just outside of Sullivan Sq. But it's been at least 4 years since I've done that.

Parking is free after you pay at the entrance. Just drive into any garage with a sign for "public parking"
