Surely there are some public high schools in the system outside the 3 exam schools that aren't complete disasters? What about the charters? There's also Metco.

Where is Boston English these days?

Is there still a Boston College high school?

Boston English is located at the former JP High Building (itself a former BostonGas building) at 144 McBride Street in JP. It has been there for three decades now after leaving its former location at 77 Ave Louis Pasteur.

BC High still exists and is on Morrissey Blvd in Dorchester, right around the corner from UMass Boston.

By cut off I mean that if your kids get under the 556th rank on the ISEE for BLS they won't be accepted into the school. They can go to BLA and the O'Bryan, and those have much lower standards. The work load is noticeably harder than what your kids receive now, and progresses as you climb up the latter. If you children cannot handle it, I wouldn't bother sending them there. Failing a class causes them to have to repeat it. Failing 2 means getting held back. Get held back twice (in terms of grade levels) means getting expelled from the school. However, the student environment is great and everyone supports each other... well for the most part. Well just reply to this if you have more questions. And one more thing.. being admitted as a 9th grader means taking 8th grade math and having trouble meeting people and getting to know how things work.
Seriously? I take it you are not having a good time at BLS. That failing system you described has been in place since I was a student and much earlier. To avoid repeating a class or not getting kept back, don't fail anything, that's all. BLS is not a perfect school and it is not for everyone as I tell people repeatedly. I've worked at other schools where students have to work to feed their families, take care of younger siblings or elderly relatives, or don't otherwise have the focus to succeed in a highly competitive school. BLS is not for these kids. If you do have a supportive family and have no social or economic obligations, then you ought to have a chance to succeed. Furthermore, I had many classmates who came in 9th grade and did very well, a few even making it to Harvard or MIT so I don't know where you are getting the "B'sies always get lost mentality".

did you know what is the minimum ISEE score to get to the exam school? I understand it is base on the score of the student who took the test as well. But do you have a guessing # since you are exam school student?
