I especially enjoyed a segment on NPR about a lady’s wish to avoid an epidural for the birth of her second child. Wanting to substitute epidural with laughing gas, the cost by minute use for the gas amounted to 5000 dollars.

The worst thing about the "Health System" in the U.S. is that the ballooned costs are based on the same model of entitlement that the Higher Education system is. Meds are more expensive, treatments and hospitalization costs are through the roof because insurance companies and health providers are obviously in cahoots to keep these costs at the highest possible level.

Likewise, the colleges and universities have managed to shut up dissent in academia by bloating salaries and entitlements. You can be the leftest leaning intellectual in American academia without ever wanting to rock the boat much until the time comes to maybe stick a nice fat Bernie bumper sticker, because, you know, it,ll never get past the good conscience phase of polling...

I actually love this piece on healthcare costs:

I know the show isn't always dead on accurate, but this was pretty good.

So the money is getting stored in the caymans. So what? I'm not seeing where I as someone insured by Partners, or an MA taxpayer is getting screwed by this specific thing. If they stored at Wells Fargo, JP, etc, I'm sure they'd be paying higher rates which would trickle down to the patients and insurers. Don't forget they're a nonprofit.

This article was written by the RI nurse lobby, who are desperately fighting against the acquisition of hospitals in RI by Partners.

Clickbait is a real problem.
