Really though, you can put whatever you want, forget to change it, have lived somewhere for 30 years and just moved for a new job, etc.

I know, but a while back he said he was thinking about moving back to Cleveland. I'm just surprised that he apparently did.

For a lot of people here, especially young people, the writing is on the wall. The cost of living in the Boston metro is prohibitive, and ultimately many conclude that it's just not worth it. I don't know if this was the deciding factor in his case, but I'm sure that it played an important role..

My wife cousin moved from Upstate NY to Dorchester for a nursing job... It lasted 4/5 months before she said it wasn't worth it due to COL and moved back home.

Boston attracts more people entering their prime earning years than people in their 20s it seems. Or the people in their 20s are being bank rolled by mum and dad.

For me at least, it was a few factors. The cost is of course a big one. It got more and more amplified the older I got and the more inclined towards marriage and family I became. I don't think it would have been possible in Boston, at least how I would have wanted to do it. I was also pretty unwilling to move out of the city to a perhaps cheaper suburb, the commute thing would drive me insane. There was also just something depressing about the high turnover every year, watching friends move out every September. I lived there 7 years and felt like one of the mainstays of my block.

The job situation in Boston is good, but honestly, I already have two full-time interviews scheduled here having been in town for about a week, then a third one for a more fun part time gig. Perhaps part of this is because my Boston work experience is more impressive here.

I don't regret moving to Boston at all, and I'm sure other people have had better experiences. Would probably do it again if I could re-live my early 20s. But especially given that I'm from Cleveland, I think it's just the right call now.
