you've clearly never lived in the bible belt when speaking of horrible school systems... I do believe New England is consistently ranked top in education and healthcare

The 103 folks I know have been making a killing for the past 5+ years. The recession hit them hard though. One guy I know came to the power company back in 2011 and then decided to go back to ibew because he can make so much with all the work going on.

Most electricians are non union by the way.

Not a lot by Mass standards. My husband also has an MBA in Business Analytics. We almost took a job that offered around $110,000 + commision in Boston but after taxes your take home is a little over $60k.. hardly liveable in the area unless you're willing to live out in western Ma. We were highly advised over and over by nearly everyone on this board to not take that kind of "low pay" in Mass unless we liked living in poverty. Our decision for that particular job was not solely based on the recommendations of this board but we had several factors that we considered, to be clear

I know it has been said 1000 times on here before. If you are single and making $110K in Boston and consider that poverty...... You have never seen poverty.

it knocked us into a new tax bracket which was 24%, income tax, federal, insurance cost... We did the math a few months back and I'd have to go dig it out but it came out to high $60k's. We looked at rentals and for the price point we thought was reasonable for the income to be iat ($2800 mo) . I made an entire post asking about the income and living in Mass and got pages of hate and laughter saying im an idiot to even consider that low amount of pay in New England and "good luck" and we'd be struggling.. so yah

I thought so too but when I made a post it was pretty much I'd be one check from a shelter if I thought I could live on that in Mass. Pages and pages of that.. So clearly the people are just nasty and bitter about where they live .

Certainly for a family of 3+ it's not *poverty* by any means, but it isn't luxury either.
