I see that you lived in Wellesly (from viewing another thread). I felt the same way when u stated the girls from Wellesly college dont really interact with the town anyhow. Its just mom being overprotective. Dont want my daughter to experience discrimination based on her race or status. She is a great person full of life and love and would hate for a bad experience such as bad service at a restuarant to interfere with her positive outlook on life. My fiance' and I experience a little snottiness at a couple of restaurants in Boston/Cambridge. When we tried to place our names for seating at one restaurant the hostess approached us with "Yes!" The lack of a smile and harshness in her tone made us feel unwelcomed. I'm also a little concerned that she may not find anyone to date since Boston is considered #10 in segregation (according to stats found on a reputable site). I understand that I'm being to overly concerned for her. When u compare the safeness of the campus and city in comparison to Berkeley, CA and USC, CA, there is none. Thank you for your response.

My daughter is a First Year at Wellesley and we are of Mexican heritage in Ventura, CA. She loves the school and has not had any problems there.

I grew up in California, went to school in Boston and remained as an adult. I don't think your daughter will have any issues that wouldn't face any other incoming student. If Wellesly is the sort of school she wants, she will have a very positive experience there. I just don't see her status as a latina making any meaningful difference.

I would be more concerned about the difference between a coed and a women's college and the difference in climate (winter here can be DEPRESSING). I went to a different Seven Sisters college in MA, and there were students from all over the world, and many different ethnic groups on campus. It wasn't really an issue and that was so long ago I'm going to keep that part a secret.

Say "YES" to Wellesley!

It's an amazing opportunity for her but it will be tough for you.

She will be fine at Wellesley and in 4 years will be a proud graduate of a truly great, historic school.

p.s. You will be fine, too. It's only a plane ride away.

BTW, I spent 4 years at a woman's university and I turned out just fine.

Um, this is from April 2008 but was just revived for some reason. I'm sure the student already made the decision.

Definately go to Wellesley! Along with the excellent academic reputation/education and beautiful campus, the student body is very diverse culturally, socio-economically, ethnically ect. My boyfriend currently runs the dining facilities for the school and he specially caters the food to the diversity of the student body. He's gets much enjoyment out of making sure the girls have what they need and helping them stay somewhat connected to thier home. Whether its Kosher, Halal, Vegetarian, Latin, Asian ect. they have it covered.

and who knows you might have the next Madaline Albright or Hillary Clinton on your hands!
