My wife and I are going to a small concert at T.T.s in Cambridge, off of Brookline and Mass Ave. We aren't familiar with Boston and we will be driving from Albany, NY. We were wondering what is the best way to get around and where to stay the night (relatively close to the venue and fairly affordable if possible).

We are hoping to see some of the city during our short stay over the weekend as well.

Thanks!

Hotel@MIT is the closest, but I don't know how affordable it is. There are some marriotts in kendall sq which is close (but don't walk btwn the two) and there is a Holiday Inn near the Lechmere T stop

How driveable is that part of Boston? Would it be wise to park the car and take the subway in?

My only question would be how late the event will run. Local transit shuts down officially at 1AM, but that's the time for the end of the last run, so it's likely to be earlier depending on what stop you're using, and how early in the run that is. As long as being out later than this would not be an issue, you'd be way better off leaving the car and taking public transit. For TT's, I believe you'd want the Central Square stop on the red line.

Here's a link to the local transit authority for maps and schedules: MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston's Public Transportation System

Since the show is really late, I booked a room at that MIT hotel. It looks like they call it the Le Meridien. It can't get more convenient than that though. Literally just down the block and close to the transit line.

We'll probably use the transit to do some sight seeing before the show and the Sunday after. I visited Boston almost 20 years ago and I'm excited to check out the area again.
